Parents
Welcome to KLIK Physiotherapy!
The therapist of your child wants to know how you and your child are doing. That’s why they asked you to fill out some questions on the KLIK website. You need to do this before your next appointment. The pediatric physiotherapist will look at your answers and talk about them with you. This helps them understand how things are going and what kind of help you need.
What does a treatment with a pediatric physiotherapist look like?
Do you want to know what steps you go through in a treatment with a pediatric physiotherapist? Then move your mouse over the different components on the right!
Intake
You will discuss together why you are visiting the pediatric physiotherapist and what is important to you. The pediatric physiotherapist will also perform an examination on your child.Goal setting
After the intake and the examination, you and the pediatric physiotherapist will set goals that you will work on. Often a somewhat larger main goal is made. You will work towards that in small steps.Treatment
After you have determined the goals, you will discuss together what the pediatric physical therapy will look like. For example, you can discuss how long the therapy will last approximately or how many times a week there will be therapy.Homework
The pediatric physiotherapist often gives exercises that your child can do at home. This way you will achieve your goal faster! Together with your pediatric physiotherapist you will discuss which exercises your child will do, how often this should be done and what possibilities you have at home to do exercises.Evaluation
After some time, you will discuss with your pediatric physiotherapist how things are going now and whether you have already achieved the goals. Sometimes it can happen that you now find something else important than in the beginning. You can always talk about this with your pediatric physiotherapist. Then you will choose a different goal together.End therapy
When the goals have been achieved, you and the pediatric physiotherapist will decide together that you can stop pediatric physiotherapy. It sometimes happens that a child temporarily stops and later starts pediatric physiotherapy again. Do you have any questions about this? Always discuss it with your pediatric physiotherapist.Talking with the (pediatric) physiotherapist
You are the expert on your own life. You know best what your days look like, what goes well, what is difficult, and what is important to you. The pediatric physiotherapist is an expert in children’s movement. Both of these perspectives—yours and the physiotherapist’s—are important to make a good plan together. That’s why talking with each other is so important.
How can I prepare for the appointment?
Sometimes, not everything you find important is discussed during the appointment. The video on the side gives tips on how to prepare for your talk with the physiotherapist. This way, you can make sure everything that matters to you is talked about. The video also introduces the ‘Three Questions’ from Kind en Ziekenhuis (Child and Hospital), which you can find here too.
This video was originally made for children in hospitals, but it still has useful information for you! A new version for physiotherapy will be ready soon.
Topic List
The topic list mentioned in the video can be found here. You can print it at home and write down what you want to talk about during your appointment. You can also write down any questions you may have. Bring the list with you to your appointment with the pediatric physiotherapist.
